2023 | The Word Shelter

Thanks to Pippi and Xander for inviting me to write poems for the Wedding Cake House’s Word Shelter from November 15-December 31. I wanted to write poems connected by a theme. I made these out of the names of Rhode Island’s oldest flora. I love the way that, when you read the poems aloud, the combinations of plant names all sound a bit like witches’ spells.

2021 | “ANTHEM”

“ANTHEM” started as a long poem in 2019. During 2020’s Covid lockdowns, I began to experiment with translating my poems into videos, to personalize, preserve, and distribute the experience of giving and watching a poetry reading. This is the first draft of the first one. I’m grateful to Mary-Kim Arnold at Tupelo Quarterly for publishing “ANTHEM” in 2021.

2021 | “BUDDY”

Berkeley Art Museum/Pacific Film Archive’s online series “From Collective Isolation” features “some of our favorite poets” reading work that addresses the Covid-19 pandemic and social isolation. I read my poem “BUDDY” in this video.

2021 | “STORY OF THE ROSE

“STORY OF THE ROSE” is about Jay DeFeo’s painting, The Rose. It mixes lyric poetry with art historical data. Published by Canarium Books in The Canary #7.

2020 | “All My Kevins”

“All My Kevins” is an essay that I wrote in memory of Kevin Killian for the Poetry Foundation’s Open Door series.

2019 | “A Western”

A long poem about wildfires in California, the Ghost Ship fire in Oakland, and other forms of collapse at Social Text.

2012 | The Feeling is Mutual: A List of Our Fucking Demands

I edited The Feeling is Mutual: A List of Our Fucking Demands in 2012. All proceeds continue to benefit San Francisco literary arts organization Small Press Traffic.

2012 | WALKING ACROSS A FIELD WE ARE FOCUSED ON AT THIS TIME NOW

My first book (with cover art by Caitlin Keogh), WALKING ACROSS A FIELD WE ARE FOCUSED ON AT THIS TIME NOW (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2012) - a long poem about the twentieth century expressed through a blend of lyric poetry (personal experience) and Wikipedia searches (public data).
